Innovation, Security, and Risk:  Compliance Strategies for Global Product Development

This session outlines how companies must not only address explicit regulatory requirements for products to compete globally, but also the implicit risks and opportunities within product innovation and the supply chain.  Irrespective of political views or approaches to compliance, the shift from traditional to “sustainable” markets brings latent risks, costs, and changes to the competitive framework.  This presentation will discuss these and answer the question “why comply” through discussion on EU REACH, RoHS Recast, and other ‘RoHS’ variations and by sharing market insight linking previous RoHS/WEEE legislation to material volatility, component obsolescence, security, counterfeiting, and product quality/reliability issues.  Economic recession will be discussed, showing major implications to product compliance and supply chain continuity.  Leading approaches and case studies on information, tools, and technologies needed will be shared.  A simple methodology will explain the steps companies can take to assess their own scope of needs and articulate compliance in a way that gains appropriate executive attention and organizational commitment to successfully mitigate risks and develop compliant, sustainable products.

  • Peter Lachapelle, VP Business Development, IHS Inc.

1:30

US and Canadian Product Related Environmental Developments: Recycling, Chemical Regulation and Energy Efficiency
