12:45 PM - Innovation, Security, and Risk: Compliance Strategies for Global Product Development
This session outlines how companies must not only address explicit regulatory requirements for products to compete globally, but also the implicit risks and opportunities within product innovation and the supply chain. This presentation will discuss these and answer the question “why comply” through discussion on EU REACH, RoHS Recast, and other ‘RoHS’ variations and by sharing market insight linking previous RoHS/WEEE legislation to material volatility, component obsolescence, security, counterfeiting, and product quality/reliability issues. Leading approaches and case studies on information, tools, and technologies needed will be shared. A simple methodology will explain the steps companies can take to assess their own scope of needs and articulate compliance in a way that gains appropriate executive attention and organizational commitment to successfully mitigate risks and develop compliant, sustainable products.
■ Scott Wilson, Content Solutions Strategists, IHS Inc.
1:15 PM – Emerging Tools for Managing Product-Related Environmental Compliance and Conformance
This presentation will highlight how companies must not only address global product environmental compliance requirements, but also ensure the compliance process itself is functional. Looking at what happens in an audit, whether by a government enforcement agency or customer request, will show where companies should be placing their focus within their compliance programs. Attention will be paid to instrumentation of the program, risk evaluation, metrics gathering, evaluation of tools, and self-evaluation criteria. Best practices and case studies from audits will be discussed.
■ Krista Botsford, Founder and President, Botsford EcoTech Partners, LLC
