Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity CxO Council (Chair: Art Coviello, Executive Vice President for EMC Corporation and President for RSA, The Security Division of EMC; Vice-chair: David McCue, Vice President and Chief Information Officer for CSC Corporation)
In 2008, the Cybersecurity Industry Alliance (CSIA) merged with ITAA. In addition to integrating CSIA’s members into the ITAA Information Security Committee, ITAA also committed to creating a Cybersecurity CxO Council to retain and expand the senior executive participation previously in CSIA under the leadership of then-CSIA Chairman John Thompson, CEO of Symantec. The group is comprised of C-level executives who have an interest in making the Internet Secure and who have the highest level of cybersecurity concern in their company. The group meets at least 3 times a year, including meetings with senior policy and business leaders in Washington, DC; San Francisco, CA; and Brussels, Belgium. The Council is open to representation by companies of all sizes and across the technology industry, as well as from various geographical regions.
Information Security (InfoSec) Committee
The InfoSec Committee’s mission is to advocate on behalf of our member companies for public policy, public-private partnership, and global coordination and collaboration efforts that reflect the needs of industry and our customers.
International Environment
International Environment Committee
The International Environmental Committee consists of representatives from member companies that are interested in monitoring, tracking, and responding to international environmental restrictions that impact the electronics industry. These include substance bans, such as the European Union’s (“EUs”) Restriction on the use of Hazardous Substances (“RoHS”) Directive and China RoHS requirements; product recycling and end-of-life management requirements, such as the EU’s Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (“WEEE”) Directive; and Energy Efficiency mandates and requirements, such as the Energy using Product (“EuP”) Directive and other region requirements. US Federal and state developments are also tracked and monitored, and responded to when appropriate.
This Committee informs members on environmental and technical regulations affecting products sold in the European Union, China, and other foreign markets and implements advocacy efforts as appropriate to ensure consistency of environmental regulations across jurisdictions. The Committee meets quarterly but receives regular updates and communications from staff and implements advocacy efforts as needed. For more information, contact Vicki Hadfield, Senior Vice President for Global Public Policy, at 202.595.3668, or Vicki.Hadfield@techamerica.org.
China RoHS Steering Committee
The TechAmerica China RoHS Steering Committee was established in 2003 directly following member company discussions concerning the 2002 initiation of the then Ministry of Information Industry (MII) “RoHS” rulemaking in China. The Committee can claim industry’s longest, sustained advocacy and regulatory information exchange effort focused on the China RoHS program. Additionally, the Committee is perhaps one of the longest such focus groups aimed at any China environmental regulatory program. The Committee is currently bringing this extensive history and experience to bear on industry issues and challenges associated with the 2010 proposed amendments to the China RoHS program, which would massively expand the program’s scope. Committee efforts are enhanced via the input and guidance of experts such as Dr. Hongjun Zhang and Tad Ferris from Holland & Knight LLP. TechAmerica serves as the Secretariat for the Committee, drafting minutes and organizing Committee efforts and budgets, liaising with other industry associations and US government representatives on China RoHS issues, and archiving key Committee materials for member access, among other tasks, as needed. Please note: There is an additional fee to participate in this Committee. For more information, contact Tiffany Barrett, Director of Programs and Business Development, at 703.284.5358 or tiffany.barrett@techamerica.org.
