Sample letter: IIT DOE Workforce Training & Development
November 24, 2009
Professor Mohammad Shahidehpour, Chair
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Illinois Institute of Technology
3301 S. Dearborn Street
Chicago, IL 60616
Dr. Shahidehpour:
I am writing to share my support for Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT)’s proposal to establish the World-Class Smart Grid Education and Workforce Training Center. The collaborative nature of the center is excellent strategy for ensuring that Illinois’ is not only training, but also deploying the skilled workforce required to advance our nation’s transition to a smarter electrical grid.
[Insert firm name and description of interest in Smart Grid].
For our workforce, the courses and hands-on workshops that will be the Workforce Training Center as critical to our future as they will help keep our employees and our firm competitive. Providing workforce training and education on the Smart Grid is a critical priority for maintaining our nation’s edge in leading the clean tech, smart grid, renewable energy and green economy revolution.
As our nation spends billions of dollars to upgrade our outdated electric grid, and provide new markets for smart grid technology development, we must ensure that our technicians, engineers, innovators and entrepreneurs have the tools they need to implement this new national vision of a cleaner, smarter electric grid. I believe the contributions of IIT’s project will have a significant impact on workforce readiness in the Midwest.
[customize/select bullets based on company/organization interest] Our organization is also interested in contributing to the development of the Center by:
- Providing thought leadership in creating a flexible curriculum that meets the technical needs of the energy, utility and technology companies.
- Providing advice on creating and delivering this curriculum to multiple stakeholders through multiple channels.
- Participating in networking, industry and education events that create awareness about the center and its purpose.
- Providing technical advice and assistance.
- Continuing to share ideas to improve curriculum, enhance the training approach and to expand the exposure of the IIT Smart Grid Center.
Please contact me with any questions.
Sincerely,
name, title, and the signature
