Immigration

Mission
The Immigration Policy Committee focuses on key business immigration issues of concern to the technology industry. This is done through lobbying Congress and the Administration, responding to regulatory agency activities, and by getting involved in federal court actions. The Committee also meets with DoL, USCIS, DoS and White House staff to address critical processing concerns.
The Committee’s primary focus is on US immigration policy, but it does also get involved in matters in the EU, India and elsewhere. Similarly the Committee provides guidance on the association’s activities related to international personnel mobility, such as Mode 4 of the GATS.
Achieving the Mission
The Immigration Policy Committee has identified the following as top priority areas:
- H-1B visas
- L-1B visas
- EB-1 visas (Green cards)
- Visa processing
- Fees and reporting requirements
To a lesser extent, the Committee has also worked on:
- Mode 4
- Export Control
- O visas
Staff and interested committee members achieve these objectives through direct advocacy, participation in the Compete America and other coalitions, regulatory filings, legal proceedings and research.
Who participates?
Committee participants include government relations professionals, in-house counsel, COOs, and HR professionals as well as attorneys from affiliate law firms.
