The TechAmerica International Policy Committee coordinates development of the association policy positions on our priority international issues and implementation of advocacy strategies for ensuring our positions are included in public policy efforts in the United States, other countries or international organizations.

Achieving the Mission
The International Policy Committee has four working groups to help it reach its vision. These working groups are described with contact information on the next page. Additionally, it has identified the following as priority issues for 2009:
- Export Controls – reform of US encryption regulations
- Customs – reduce the administrative and financial burden of the CBP Importer Security Filing (ISF) “10 + 2” regulation
- China – seek regulatory approaches to encryption and information security that are consistent with international practices and do not restrict access for US products and services
- Trade – seek approval by Congress of Panama, Colombia and Korea FTAs
- Internet Governance – support an ICANN that is stable, reliable, globally acceptable, and private-sector led as the Internet continues to evolve in scope and scale
- International Environment – ensure China RoHS regulations do not create market access barriers
- India – seek implementation of IT Act regulations that will not restrict or inhibit US high-tech products or services
- Europe – promote adoption of policies to encourage the use of advanced technologies to reduce carbon emissions

Who participates?
The typical committee participants are government relations professionals and in-house counsels at companies interested in a broad range of international legislative and regulatory issues related to trade, internet governance, environment, information security, standards, export controls, and customs with a focus on Europe, China and India. Attorneys from affiliate law firms also participate.

The World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) is a consortium of over 60 information technology (IT) industry associations from economies around the world.
Founded in 1978 and originally known as the World Computing Services Industry Association, WITSA has increasingly assumed an active advocacy role in international public policy issues affecting the creation of a robust global information infrastructure.
