This session will highlight recent and proposed changes to the European Union’s Waste from Electrical and Electronic (“WEEE”) Directive and the Restriction on the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances (“RoHS”) Directive, including expansions in covered product scope as well as new substance restrictions. The session will also highlight the status of current enforcement activities that are underway in the European Union, as well as the Battery Directive.

This session outlines how companies must not only address explicit regulatory requirements for products to compete globally, but also the implicit risks and opportunities within product innovation and the supply chain.  Presenters will answer the question “why comply” as they discuss EU REACH, RoHS Recast, and other ‘RoHS’ variations and will share market insight linking previous RoHS/WEEE legislation to material volatility, component obsolescence, security, counterfeiting, and product quality/reliability issues.  Economic recession will be discussed, showing major implications to product compliance and supply chain continuity.  Leading approaches and case studies on information, tools, and necessary technologies will be shared.
