The 17th Annual TechAmerica High-Tech Innovation Awards, at Hyatt Regency Irvine, June 2, 2010, was an opportunity for Orange County and Inland Empire regional tech companies to receive visibility and recognition as the innovators and innovations they've cultivated are honored for their work, contribution to the high-tech industry, and our society. This is the region's largest and most anticipated tech networking event of the year!  There were 350 technology executives and architects, industry service providers/partners, media, local/regional policy-makers, educators, students, political reps, and High-Tech Awards finalists in attendance.

April 28, 2010:  TechAmerica Foundation's Cyberstates 2010 -- U.S. High-Tech Industry Sheds 245,600 Jobs in 2009

California’s high-tech industry added 15,800 net jobs for an industry total of 993,300 in 2008, the most current year for which state data is available. This two percent gain in the midst of recession compared with an overall one percent loss in the state’s private sector workforce in 2008. Leading the way in job creation were R&D and testing labs (+9,100), computer systems design and related services (+7,900 jobs), and engineering services (+1,200 jobs).

Devin Whitney, Legislative Advocate for TechAmerica in Sacramento, delivered a compelling picture of the California business landscape if the Business Net Receipt Tax and other reforms are enacted into legislation. Attendees also learned about other possible tax ‘reforms’ efforts in Sacramento.

The Business Net Receipt Tax is one of recent recommendations of Gov. Schwarzenegger’s Commission on the 21st Century Economy to “promote the long-term economic prosperity of the state and citizens”.
