PS Federal Committee

This committee represents the interests of IT vendors in the federal civilian government marketplace. Since its inception, the committee has been an invaluable resource to members on issues such as technology trends, key issues and challenges affecting CIOs and CXOs, and allowing members to optimize business and networking opportunities. The members focus on business development and government customer interface. The members focus on business development and government customer interface. This is done through a series of programs and activities that aim to bring government customers before its members to discuss issues of mutual interest. Some of its signature programs include its monthly rountable series for senior government officials, its annual CIO survey, and its task groups which focus on issues of special interest to IT vendors. The Federal Committee meets monthly except for August and December--usually on the fourth Wednesday of the month. Its many task groups meet according to need. Please contact Olga Grkavac at olga.grkavac@techamerica.org if you have questions about this Committee.

20th Annual CIO Survey - Transparency and Transformation Through Technology

  • “An important focus of the new administration has been to create a more open government, one is that is more transparent, participatory and collaborative,” said TechAmerica President and CEO Phil Bond. “Federal CIOs are excited about playing a key role in fundamentally changing how the federal government and its constituents interact through the use of information technology.”
  • “The CIOs think that broadening public participation and involvement in government will create greater trust in government, increase the value that citizens receive from government, and unleash innovation with respect to governing and government services,” said Paul Wohlleben, a partner in the Global Public Sector practice at Grant Thornton, LLP.
  • In support of open, transparent government, TechAmerica has found CIOs taking actions in two distinct areas – providing access to information through projects like Data.gov, USASpending.gov, Recovery.gov, and the Federal IT Dashboard, as well as increasing collaboration and participation through social media, Web 2.0 and Government 2.0, blogs, wikis, Twitter, Facebook, public dialogue, and next generation Web applications.
  • Looking ahead, CIOs see the following challenges (in order of priority):
  1. Cybersecurity
  2. IT Infrastructure
  3. IT Workforce
  4. IT Management
  5. Efficiency and Effectiveness
  6. Performance Management and Accountability
  7. Acquisition
  • The survey reports data from in-person interviews with federal CIOs from civilian, homeland security and defense agencies in the executive branch, as well as key officials from the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) and the Congress.
