Report Examines How Federal IT Professionals Are Providing Innovative Technology Solutions

Washington, D.C., June 4, 2014 – TechAmerica, the public sector and public policy division of CompTIA, in collaboration with Grant Thornton, identified three top priorities for government IT officials in its 24th Annual Federal CIO Survey.  This year’s survey, entitled CIO/CISO Insights: Achieving Results and Confronting Obstacles, addresses the evolving federal IT infrastructure and how these changes are impacting strategic priorities. The report will be presented at the National Press Club’s Holeman Lounge in Washington, DC, tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.

The report points to IT security, modernization/innovation, and cloud/mobility as government’s top IT priorities. Balancing these priorities, however, often includes transforming the mindset and workflow for the workforce and reflects some of the top challenges that were identified, including workforce, security and budget cost savings.

“The hardworking and dedicated CIOs and CISOs face unprecedented change in their agencies and their field,” said Mike Hettinger, senior vice president, public sector, TechAmerica. “This report shows that they are working diligently to take advantage of new technologies to improve services for the federal workforce, while at the same time being mindful of budget constraints. Within this framework, they also are endeavoring to enhance IT security and lower risk.”

“Our latest report highlights how federal officials are adopting new technologies to empower their workforces, but in the face of enormous headwinds,” said Srikant Sastry, managing principal of Grant Thornton’s Global Public Sector. “Despite obstacles like sequestration and shutdown, as well as an ever evolving security threat, CIOs and CISOs are driving innovation in the cloud and mobile devices, in developing collaboration environments, and in security. A huge part of this innovation is in ensuring that their workforce is properly equipped with modern tools, technologies, skills and policies to engage and fulfill their agency’s mission.”

The report examines a number of areas affecting IT services, including:

  • Budget control,
  • Cloud and mobility,
  • Workforce,
  • Delivery,
  • Acquisition (including FAR and LPTA),
  • IT shared services,
  • Security, and
  • Analytics.

Government CIOs will discuss the report during tomorrow’s presentation.  On the panel moderated by Jason Miller, executive editor and reporter, Federal News Radio, will be:
