Announcement at Berkner High School highlights $160 million initiative for Texas students
Dallas, TX – TechAmerica Texas, the oldest and largest voice for Technology in Texas, congratulates Governor Rick Perry for his $160 million initiative to expand the Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (T-STEM) academies.
Established in 2006, the T-STEM program was designed for students pursuing a post-secondary education or career in one of these fields and has successfully provided resources for students to ensure they are prepared for their collegiate and vocational careers.
“We couldn’t agree more with Governor Perry that one of the best investments we can make to better the long-term economic development of our state is one that improves the education of our youth,” said Jeff Clark, executive director of TechAmerica Texas. “TechAmerica Texas has been an advocate for advanced technology, science, math and engineering programs. Dallas, TXThe FIRST Robotics Dallas regional competition brings high school students from the DFW area together to compete to earn a spot in the FIRST World Championships. The students have been tasked to compete under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, and have had to design a team brand and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It's as close to real-world engineering as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors have also lent their time and talents to guide each team.
