Georgia Tech Exports Up $31 Million in 2008

Trade in the Cyberstates 2009TechAmerica Foundation released its annual report detailing state trends in the international trade of high-tech goods. The report, Trade in the Cyberstates 2009: A State-by-State Overview of High-Tech International Trade, includes statistics and trend data for all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

Texas has firmly established itself as the nation’s second largest tech exporting state with $39.8 billion in technology exports in 2008. Tech exports rose by $117 million from 2007. Texas ranked first nationwide in exports of communications equipment ($9.5 billion) and electronic components ($3.5 billion), and second in exports of semiconductors ($10.7 billion). Tech exports support 253,600 jobs in Texas and make up more than one fifth of all goods exported from the state.

February 20, 2010: Seminole County Regional Science Math and Engineering Fair: Call for Judges

The Seminole County Regional Science, Math, & Engineering Fair is Saturday, February 20, 2010.  Last year, 30 Seminole students went on to compete and many took prizes in the State competition.  Four individual students and two teams from Seminole County High Schools went to International and several came home with prizes!  Professionals in the sciences, math, and engineering fields are needed to judge the event from 8 AM until 3PM.  In addition, sponsorships and awards from professional societies, companies, and individuals are needed, and volunteers are needed to assist in logistics for the event.  There are also year-round opportunities to mentor students who are preparing projects.  Don’t miss the public display of projects during mall hours on February 20 at the Seminole Towne Center Mall in Sanford.  For more information, contact the Fair Judging and Awards Committee Chair, Michele Mingoia, at 407.806.4442 (w).

July 1, 2009: Workforce Florida Announces Appication Information for Standard IWT and Stimulus IWT 09-10 Funding

Workforce Florida has announced that applications are now being accepted for the Standard IWT and Stimulus IWT Funding for 2009-2010 Program Year. The Incumbent Worker Training Program provides grant funding for customized training for existing for profit businesses. Established in 1999, the Incumbent Worker Training Program has provided customized training for over 50,000 employees for more than 500 businesses throughout the state. The program has been structured to be flexible to meet the business’s training objectives. The business may use public, private, or its own in-house training provider based on the nature of the training. March 31, 2009: TechAmerica Report Shows that Tech Industry Remains Vital to Florida’s Economy

Cyberstates 2009The Cyberstates 2009 report – which details national and state trends in high-tech employment, wages, and other key economic factors for all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico – shows that Florida remained the 4th ranked cyberstate employing 280,300 workers with a total payroll of $19 billion in 2007, the most current year for which state data is available. Florida’s computer systems design and related services sector gained 4,100 net jobs. Georgia’s high-tech industry added 13,000 net jobs to its economy, totaling 177,500 in 2007, the most current year for which state data is available. This is the second net job gain since the bursting of the tech bubble in 2001. The average Georgia tech worker earned $79,700 in 2007, or 87 percent more than the state’s average private sector wage of $42,700.
